Can Horses Eat Eggs?


Yes, horses can eat eggs! It is professed by some horse owners that feeding eggs to horses on a regular basis is a great way to make their coat healthy and shiny. This is supposedly because of the high amount of protein and amino acids that eggs contain which are great to improve growth and development in horses.

So long as the egg has had its shell removed and it has been cooked it should be fine to feed your horse an occasional egg; although we Can Horses Eat Eggsrecommend no more than one a day. Horses are at risk of catching salmonella the same as humans therefore we never recommend feeding your horse raw egg or mixing raw egg in with your horses regular food. In our opinion the best way to feed egg to a horse is to hard boil it, chop it in half and feed it to your horse by hand.

Don’t be alarmed if your horse does not like eating eggs however! Eggs have an unusual smell in the first place; imagine how odd they might smell to a herbivore! If your horse does like eggs like there are other protein supplements and enhancers that you can feed to your horse to improve their coat.
